FRAZER, Pa., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cephalon, Inc. (Nasdaq:
CEPH) announced today that it is embarking on a national educational
program designed to promote greater awareness among patients, caregivers
and the public about the importance of appropriate and responsible use of
prescription opioid medications. The initiative, When Good Medicines Become
Bad Drugs(SM), will include a series of free educational programs on timely
topics. The first webcast, moderated by General Barry R. McCaffrey, former
Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, will take place on
Tuesday, October 21, 2008, from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Eastern, and will
focus on safeguarding medications in the home.
"This program is consistent with Cephalon's commitment to ensure that
prescription medications are used safely by the appropriate patients," said
Dr. Lesley Russell, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at
Cephalon. "Currently, 71 percent of people who abuse prescription pain
