Route 51 Tire Fire Causes Detours for Motorists, PennDOT Says

    UNIONTOWN, Pa., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Engineering District 12-0 of the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing a travel
advisory for Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning on State Route 51 because
of the tire fire that is burning in Forward Township in Allegheny County.
    The tire fire has reduced the Northbound lanes of traffic of State
Route 51 to a single lane, to the Allegheny County Line, for the remainder of
today and for the morning of October 15, 1997.  The Southbound lanes of
traffic will remain closed for the remainder of today and for the morning of
October 15, 1997.
    The detour route for the Southbound lanes of State Route 51 will be as
follows:  from SR 51 to State Route 136, to State Route 906 to State Route 201
and back to State Route 51.
    PennDOT is asking all travelers of State Route 51 to use the posted detour
or find an alternative route to your destinations.  Please add extra time to
your travel plans and obey the posted speed limits in this emergency
situation.
