Nomination Process Opens to Public for Business News Luminaries of the Century

DENVER, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Forget all the talk about Y2K; you know
the Millenium is near when you start seeing lists of the top movies, the top
songs, the top voices, even the top fads of the century.
Now comes an opportunity for the public to help identify 100 of the
century's most influential business news journalists and news executives in
the United States -- the people who have delivered the news in what is
undoubtedly the fastest-paced, fastest-changing century in history.
Avid business news consumers, members of the public, and journalists can
participate in the nomination process for the TJFR Group/MasterCard
International Business News Luminaries of the Century Awards at
http://www.newsluminaries.com. Nomination forms also are available by calling
(303) 296-1200, x109. Nominees may be living or deceased.
At the web site, interested individuals can nominate and/or endorse
journalists and news executives whose visionary thinking and deeds have most
positively influenced the business news profession, according to Dean Rotbart,
chairman and executive editor of TJFR Group.
"We are encouraging the public to help identify those business news
journalists and news executives who have served as torchbearers for the
profession," he said.
Nominations will close Oct. 31, when a panel of leading business reporters
and editors, business executives, academics, and historians will screen the
nominations and make recommendations. TJFR's editorial staff will make final
decisions on the100 individuals to be honored.
TJFR Group will announce the 100 award recipients in a special December
1999 issue of TJFR Business News Reporter, the organization's quarterly
business journalism trade magazine, and then post the result on the web site,
http://www.newsluminaries.com. A recognition dinner for award recipients,
hosted by PR Newswire, will take place March 10, 2000, at the Waldorf-Astoria
in New York.
Although several major journalism awards specifically recognize business
news achievement in a single instance or series of stories, the Business News
Luminary Award is unique in that it pays tribute to those whose impact on the
profession is enduring, Rotbart said. The award is an outgrowth of the
tremendous public interest in business news in recent decades, he added.
TJFR Group is the nation's leading source of information on business
journalists and news organizations. Each year, TJFR recognizes the Top 100
influential business journalists in the country, the best business and
financial beat reporters, and the 30 most promising business journalists under
