World-Renowned Author Stephen R. Covey to Host Community Event Dedicated to Strengthening Families

Free Event to Focus on Step-by-Step Process for Improving Family Relationships

NEW YORK and SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- To help address
various issues challenging families today, Dr. Stephen R. Covey, author of the
New York Times best-selling book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,"
will be in New York City on October 18 to host a free community workshop
dedicated to strengthening family relationships.
Sponsored by FranklinCovey (NYSE: FC), the leading global learning and
performance services firm, the workshop on Thursday, October 18 from 7:30 to
9 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, located at 7th Avenue and
52nd Street, was created for families affected by the tragic
September 11 events in New York City.
In today's turbulent environment, no family is free from challenges --
whether from within or from the outside world. Sadly, hundreds of families
were recently forced to deal with unimaginable issues and circumstances as a
result of the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington D.C.
and Pennsylvania.
The objective of this family workshop is to offer an uplifting and
encouraging environment to communities and families throughout the New York
City area that are affected by challenging circumstances and issues. The
interactive forum allows attendees to hear Dr. Stephen R. Covey, vice-chairman
of FranklinCovey speak, as well as answer questions about current issues
families face today.
Regarding his opportunity to speak to the people of New York, Dr. Covey
said, "Like people all over the world I have been deeply moved and affected by
the tragic events a little over a month ago. I look forward with great
anticipation, to visit with the great people of the New York area who have
inspired and lifted us, even in the midst of their complex and chaotic
experience."
During the workshop, Dr. Covey will use the 7 Habits(R) as a foundation to
discuss effective families through a powerful framework of timeless principles
that enable family members to effectively communicate about and resolve their
challenges. By sharing insightful, poignant and humorous experiences from his
own life, as well as from the lives of other families, Dr. Covey will show how
families can move from problem-solving to a creative focus, and how each
family member can contribute and add meaning to their individual, family and
community life.
The following day, Friday, October 19, Dr. Covey will give a keynote
address to the business community during a free, one-day conference, titled
"Managing Change in the Face of Crisis and Economic Uncertainty." The
FranklinCovey conference, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel and
Towers, is for companies and organizations that continue to be affected by the
September 11 crisis.
In addition to Dr. Covey, the conference will feature keynote addresses by
Bob Whitman, CEO of FranklinCovey and Hyrum W. Smith, vice-chairman of
FranklinCovey and author of "What Matters Most: The Power of Living Your
Values." Attendees of the conference will also have an opportunity to meet in
breakout sessions with consultants and other experts to discuss a variety of
topics such as Focusing on What Matters Most, Trust in a Time of Tragedy,
Coaching Through Crisis and The Nobility of Public Safety Service.
