New Consolidated Server System to Streamline Company IT Infrastructure, Reduce
Administrative Costs
MILWAUKEE and BLUE BELL, Pa., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Fortis Health and
Unisys Corporation announce the installation of three Unisys Enterprise Server
ES7000s to run the company's core business applications. The centerpiece of
Fortis Health's server technology upgrade, the Unisys ES7000s will allow the
leading health insurer to operate more efficiently in serving its customers
and partners.
Using a powerful blend of the most advanced technology in hardware and
software, the Unisys ES7000 servers will centralize all company customer
information, including claims and transactions, in a mission-critical,
consolidated server environment.
"Fortis Health is committed to establishing itself as a leader in the
effective use of technology to support our customers and providers," comments
Roger Jones, Senior Vice President and CIO of Fortis Health. "Once fully
integrated, this centralized server system will streamline our business
operations to a degree that other insurance companies have not matched."
Early adopter of cutting-edge technology
Fortis Health has adopted the Unisys ES7000 servers running the Microsoft
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server operating system. The combination permits the
company to consolidate multiple applications on a single server platform,
significantly reducing the number of servers requiring regular upkeep and
maintenance. In addition, one ES7000 contains an eight-way partition of Intel
Itanium 64-bit processors, which extends Fortis Health's ability to process
large quantities of analytic data -- an ability most companies do not have.
"By adopting the Unisys ES7000 system to further its overall business
strategy, Fortis Health is able to simplify the management of complex data
center operations," noted Peter Samson, Vice President and General Manager,
Technology Sales Development, Unisys Corporation. "There's no question that
they are demonstrating a dedication to staying far ahead of the technology
curve."
The Unisys ES7000s will run Fortis Health's core business applications,
and will be integrated with Microsoft technologies to run additional programs
such as company email, database, file and print, host integration, and
Internet services.
"It's great to be working with Fortis Health on their server consolidation
project," said Bob Ellsworth, Director, Windows Server product management
group, Microsoft Corp. "Fortis Health is a leader in the health insurance
industry, and we are very pleased to help them retain that position with these
enterprise-class solutions from Microsoft and Unisys."
Fortis Health, which provides health insurance coverage for over one
million people nationwide, plans to connect its nationwide offices to the new
system. Installation, testing and integration began in July, and the expanded
ES7000 complex is was operational in September 2002. The new system is housed
at the company's Milwaukee, Wis. headquarters.
