The event, organized by Cecilia Houston-Torrence -- FHLBank Atlanta's
Community Involvement Officer, Wendy Bowman-Littler -- the Atlanta Business
Chronicle's Living in Atlanta Editor and The Eric R. Beverly Family
Foundation was themed "The Pink and the Powerful: A Celebration of Life."
Approximately 50 "pink and powerful" women were in attendance including
celebrity breast cancer survivors, Monica Pearson, longtime WSB/Channel 2
evening news anchor and JaQuitta Williams, former WSB/Channel 2 news anchor
who also acted as Mistress of Ceremonies.
The keynote speaker, Danielle Beverly, is a three-time breast cancer
survivor and co-founder of The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation. The room
was brought to tears, laughter and joy as speakers recanted their stories
of struggle, strength and survival. "Just hold tight, keep the faith," said
Beverly. "The sun will come out tomorrow."
"Breast cancer does not define me," said Monica Pearson, an 11 year
survivor. "I'm going to live my life as long as God lets me: have fun, ride
my motorcycle and enjoy my husband!"
Addressing her fellow survivors as "Breast Friends," Williams concluded
the event with a giveaway for the longest celebrating survivor in
attendance - Rhonda Hurd, an FHLBank Atlanta employee who is a 14 year
survivor.
