New Appointments to Immunex Discovery Research Team

         Thomas O. Daniel, M.D., Promoted to SVP, Discovery Research,
          Kendall Mohler, Ph.D., Promoted to VP, Biological Sciences

    SEATTLE, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Immunex Corporation (Nasdaq: IMNX) today
announced the appointment of key researchers to lead its discovery research
efforts.  Thomas O. Daniel, M.D., has been promoted to senior vice president
of discovery research and Kendall Mohler, Ph.D., has been promoted to vice
president of biological sciences.
    "Both Tom and Ken have made numerous contributions to Immunex and have
been instrumental in broadening the research capabilities of our discovery
research program," said Doug Williams, Ph.D., executive vice president and
chief technology officer.  "Positioning them at the helm of our discovery
research team gives us the opportunity to build on their commitment and
leadership supporting our drug development efforts."
    In his newly appointed position, Dr. Daniel will be responsible for the
oversight and integrative coupling of molecular discovery with preclinical
therapeutic development.  He will lead the biology and molecular biology
groups.  Dr. Mohler will take the lead to ensure coordination between the
company's pre-clinical pipeline research and clinical and marketing efforts.
    Prior to joining Immunex in 2000 as the vice president of oncology and
vascular biology, Dr. Daniel was director of the Vanderbilt University Center
for Vascular Biology and Professor of Medicine and Cell Biology.  He received
a B.A. in Chemistry from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX, and an
M.D. from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, TX.
    Joining Immunex in 1989, Dr. Mohler most recently served as senior
director of the immunology department.  In this capacity, he was responsible
for pre-clinical research in the areas of transplantation, inflammation and
autoimmunity.  Additionally, he has lead the pre-clinical analysis of
ENBREL(R) (etanercept), and has been studying the role of other TNF ligand
family members in inflammation and autoimmune disease.  He holds a Bachelor's
degree in Biology from the University of Kansas, and received his Ph.D. in
Immunology from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas.
