Ocean Energy Schedules Third Quarter Earnings Conference Call and Webcast

    HOUSTON, Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Ocean Energy, Inc. (NYSE: OEI) will
conduct a third quarter earnings and outlook conference call and live webcast
at 8:30 a.m. Central / 9:30 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday, October 23, 2001.

international locations, dial 1-415-228-4580.  The call passcode is OEI and
the call leader is James Hackett, chairman of the board, president and chief
executive officer.
