COLUMBIA, Md., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- GSE Systems, Inc. (GSE)
(Amex: GVP), a leading global provider of real-time simulation and process
control solutions for the energy and process industries, today announced over
100 customers from 42 companies in 10 counties attended its annual Power
Simulation User's Conference in Orlando, Florida (ref: http://www.SimWorld2001.com ).
At this recently held conference, GSE demonstrated new products and presented
future trends for power plant simulation technology in both the nuclear and
fossil industries. Customers presented real world examples of how GSE
software tools and simulation systems have contributed to improving their
efficiency, provided unique training solutions, and validated plant changes.
A number of customers described projects in which their power plants were
changing from a panel board control room to a computer-based distributed
control system (DCS). One plant tested the new DCS by integrating it with the
full-scope simulator previously developed by GSE. This allowed the plant and
DCS vendor to stimulate and test control logic in a "plant environment,"
uncovering mistakes that could have delayed the start-up or produced
operational difficulties in the real plant. After the DCS is implemented in
the control room, the simulator would then be reconfigured to reflect the new
control room conditions to ensure effective operator training.
Hal Paris, GSE's Senior Vice President for the Power Business Unit, said,
"We appreciate the effort our customers made to travel during these tough
times. Our customers displayed enthusiasm for the new technology we are
developing which will make their simulators more robust, easier to use, and
beneficial to users across the entire plant organization. Their willingness
to participate in the conference speaks to their dedication to improving plant
performance through simulation."
Mr. Paris added: "We know that as nuclear plants in the US and abroad
extend their useful life, new technology will be introduced in the control
room, requiring corresponding upgrades to both the industries installed base
of simulators, and operator training programs. The conference showed how GSE
has the experience in nuclear simulator modification projects and DCS based
fossil power simulators to guarantee success in this transition."
