James Nachtwey, Chris Rainier Join Elite Epson Stylus Pros Program

Renowned Photographers to Be Among Those Signing Prints at Epson Booth During
                                PhotoPlus Expo

NEW YORK, PhotoPlus Expo Booth #917, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Epson America
Inc. is continuing to recognize industry-leading professional photographers
who are using Epson printing technology by selecting James Nachtwey and Chris
Rainier to join the Epson Stylus Pros program. The Stylus Pros encompass a
variety of disciplines, including fine art, fashion, editorial, portrait,
celebrity, travel, sports, advertising, and nature photography.
Images from the Vietnam War and the American Civil Rights Movement had a
powerful effect on Nachtwey and were instrumental in his decision to become a
photographer. In 1976 he started work as a newspaper photographer, and in
1980, he moved to New York to begin a career as a freelance magazine
photographer. His first foreign assignment was to cover civil strife in
Northern Ireland in 1981 during the IRA hunger strike. Since then, Nachtwey
has devoted himself to documenting wars, conflicts and critical social issues
around the world so that these events are not forgotten and hopefully will not
be repeated. Nachtwey has been a contract photographer with Time Magazine
since 1984. In 2001, he became one of the founding members of the photo
agency, VII. He has received numerous honors, many of them multiple times,
and is a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.
Rainier is considered one of the leading photographers working today. His
life mission is to document the disappearing cultures and tribes remaining on
the planet. His photographs have appeared in many publications including:
Time Magazine, National Geographic publications, Smithsonian Magazine, Conde
Nast Traveler, The New Yorker, The New York Times, and the publications of The
United Nations. Rainier's pictures are in numerous permanent collections
around the world. Rainier serves as a co-director of the National Geographic
Society Cultures Ethnosphere program and as director of its Web site
CulturesOnTheEdge.com. From 1980 to 1985, Rainier was a photographic assistant
to the late Ansel Adams.
"James and Chris are both leaders in capturing the often harsh realities
of the human experience through their images," said Dan Steinhardt, marketing
manager, Epson America. "It's through their vision and selfless dedication
that we all experience the true power of photography to inform and drive
social change. As such, we are honored to welcome them as members of our
elite program."
Epson features the Stylus Pros, their work and their use of Epson
technology at a variety of industry events, including personal appearances.
The Stylus Pros also provide valuable feedback on the performance and quality
of Epson hardware, ink and media, as well as the needs of photographers that
has, and continues, to shape future product development.
Epson unveiled the Epson Stylus Pros in 2001 at PhotoPlus Expo and will
once again feature a gallery of their photographs, printed this year with
Epson UltraChrome K3(TM) ink, Epson's latest ink technology, at this year's
show held Oct. 20-22 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York.
Furthermore, 16 Stylus Pros, including Nachtwey and Rainier, will be signing
original prints of one of their images, printed on the Epson Stylus(R) Pro
4800, and discussing how Epson technology gives them unprecedented creative
control and print quality. Prints will be given on a first-come, first-serve
basis in the Gallery area of Epson Booth #917. Other Epson Stylus Pros who
will be signing prints include:

     * John Paul Caponigro * Steve McCurry
     * Bruce Dale * Howard Schatz
