North American Semiconductor Equipment Industry Posts September 2007 Book-to-Bill Ratio of 0.81

    SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- North American-based
manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.23 billion in orders in
September 2007 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.81
according to the September 2007 Book-to-Bill Report published today by
SEMI. A book-to-bill of 0.81 means that $81 worth of orders were received
for every $100 of product billed for the month.
The three-month average of worldwide bookings in September 2007 was
$1.23 billion. The bookings figure is down about 10 percent from the final
August 2007 level of $1.37 billion and 25 percent less than the $1.64
billion in orders posted in September 2006.
The three-month average of worldwide billings in September 2007 was
$1.51 billion. The billings figure is 10 percent less than the final August
2007 level of $1.68 billion and about nine percent less than the September
2006 billings level of $1.67 billion.
"New equipment orders have dipped to levels last seen in late 2005 and
early 2006," said Stanley T. Myers, president and CEO of SEMI. "We are
seeing orders decline from the peak levels earlier this year, which were
driven largely by strong investments in 300 mm memory capacity."
The SEMI book-to-bill is a ratio of three-month moving averages of
worldwide bookings and billings for North American-based semiconductor
equipment manufacturers. Billings and bookings figures are in millions of U.S.
dollars.
