NORTHBROOK, Ill., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Allstate Insurance Co. has
announced a realignment of its senior management team to coincide with Edward
M. Liddy becoming the company's new chief executive officer on January 1,
1999. Liddy, currently president and chief operating officer, is replacing
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jerry D. Choate, who is retiring at the
end of the year.
"Everything we do is focused on the customer and on growing our company,"
Liddy said today. "These changes are designed to strengthen the Allstate
customer experience, enhance the speed of decision-making, and take advantage
of the skills and experience of our senior management team to grow our
company."
Robert W. Gary, 60, Allstate Property & Casualty president, will assume
responsibility for all of Allstate's property and casualty operations. In
addition to Gary's existing organization of sales, claims and product
operations, Allstate's non-standard auto insurance businesses will report to
him.
Louis G. Lower, president, Allstate Life, will become chairman, Allstate
Life and Savings. Lower, 53, will oversee the external and industry relations
of the Allstate Life Insurance Co. and the newly formed Allstate Federal
Savings Bank. Thomas J. Wilson, 40, Allstate's senior vice president and
chief financial officer, will become president, Allstate Life and Savings.
Robert W. Pike, 57, currently senior vice president and general counsel,
will become executive vice president of administration, overseeing legal,
corporate relations and human resources. Michael J. McCabe, 53, senior vice
president, marketing and brand development, will become senior vice president
and general counsel.
The positions of chief financial officer and senior vice president,
marketing and brand development will be filled as soon as possible.
Steven L. Groot, 49, president, Allstate Indemnity, will become president,
Allstate International, replacing Edward W. Young, 59, who will retire on
December 31, 1998.
Rita P. Wilson, 52, currently senior vice president, Corporate Relations,
will become president, Allstate Indemnity and Allstate Enterprises, reporting
to Bob Gary. The position of senior vice president, corporate relations will
not be filled at this time.
