WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Public Utility
Commission on Friday unanimously adopted the rate settlement agreement reached
by PG Energy, the PUC's Office of Trial Staff, the Office of Consumer
Advocate, the Office of Small Business Advocate and a number of industrial
intervenors.
An administrative law judge recommended PUC approval of the settlement
earlier this month.
In a press release issued at the time of the judge's recommendation, PG
Energy said the new rates would increase the average residential heating bill
by 5.1 percent, or $4.08 a month. Commercial customers using 47,400 cubic feet
of natural gas each month would see their bills increase 1.9% and industrial
users consuming 120,000 cubic feet of natural gas would experience a 0.8%
increase. The rate change affects the customer classes differently due to the
per-unit cost of delivering natural gas to residential, commercial and
industrial customers.
The new rates went into effect Saturday.
The rate increase will provide PG Energy with $7.4 million of additional
annual revenues and allows the Company to recover costs associated with the
maintenance and improvement of its 2,200-mile delivery system.
