HOUSTON, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Eagle USA Airfreight, Inc. (Nasdaq: EUSA)
today announced that in recognition of its expanding international business
activities, it is changing the name under which it does business worldwide to
"EGL Eagle Global Logistics." The new name not only reflects the global
aspect of the business, but also is a more comprehensive overview of the
company's broader spectrum of services and its long-term growth strategy.
The company began its operations as an airfreight forwarder solely in the
United States. Having the ability to respond and adapt to its customers'
needs, the company expanded its services to include not only air freight, but
also ground, ocean and logistics. Acknowledging the demands of customers with
international requirements and the opening of overseas terminals, Management
and Board of Directors concluded that the name change was appropriate to
recognize the company's growth and industry position.
"Our new name epitomizes the nature of our business today as a leader in
the transportation industry," stated James R. Crane, the Company's Chairman
and CEO. "It is also important for our name to be representative of the
markets we serve around the world without abandoning the foundation of our
identity - Eagle."
Eagle will conduct its business under the new name through its operating
subsidiaries. Eagle's parent corporation will retain its formal name as
"Eagle USA Airfreight, Inc," but expects to seek shareholder approval for a
name change at its annual meeting next February. Until that time, Eagle's
shares will continue to trade under the symbol "EUSA."
EGL Eagle Global Logistics' dedication to providing superior flexibility
and fewer shipping restrictions on a price competitive basis has made it a
leading provider of airfreight forwarding and other transportation and
logistics services. The Company's network of 78 terminals in eight countries
features state-of-the-art information systems designed to maximize cargo
management efficiency and customer satisfaction. The Company's shares are
currently traded on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol "EUSA."
