GSE Systems Announces Multiple Contract Awards

COLUMBIA, Md., Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- GSE Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: GSES), a
leading global provider of real time simulation and process control solutions
to the energy, process and manufacturing industries, today announced that it
has been awarded multiple contracts with a value in excess of $23 million.
The contracts, which are to be completed on various schedules within the next
thirty-two months, represent projects to be performed by the Company's Power
Systems and Process Solutions business units.

    GSE Power Systems
The contracts awarded to the GSE Power Systems business unit during the
third quarter of 1998 total $14 million. The contracts are for new power
plant training simulator products in Ukraine, Japan and South Africa.
The contracts in Ukraine are for simulators and are major modifications to
contracts awarded by Battelle Memorial Institute which operates the Pacific
Northwest National Laboratory pursuant to the US Department of Energy's
International Nuclear Safety Program, which is aimed at improving the safety
of Soviet-designed nuclear power plants in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia
and Ukraine. These contracts provide for simulators for the South Ukraine
nuclear power plant (Units 1 and 3) and the Rivne nuclear power plant
(Unit 3). The contracts in Japan and South Africa are for the modification
and upgrade of computer systems and software for existing training simulators.
Jerry Jen, Senior Vice President of GSE Power Systems, said, "These awards
are consistent with GSE Power Systems' contract booking objectives for 1998.
Our three operating centers, GSE Power Systems, Inc., GSE Power Systems AB of
Sweden and RNI Technologies, continue to work together as a team to provide
the best available combination of services and technology to our clients
around the world."

    GSE Process Solutions
The contracts awarded to the GSE Process Solutions business unit during
the third quarter of 1998 total $9 million. The contracts are for new
customer process control systems and existing customer system upgrades.
Several of the major system awards are for new installations in the European
community, demonstrating GSE Process Solutions' ability to expand its
relationships with global strategic partners.
"The Process group's continued strong sales performance is a positive
indicator as to the health of our relationships with our core customers," said
Brian K. Southern, Senior Vice President, Process Business Unit. "The
$9 million in awards in the third quarter, coupled with the $13 million in
awards from the second quarter, are a strong indication of the confidence our
current and new customers have in the refocused direction of GSE Systems as a
'Top Tier' provider of Real Time Simulation and Control."

GSE Systems' products are used in over 700 applications, representing over
250 customers in 30 countries, in the following industries: specialty
chemical, food & beverage, petroleum refining, oil & gas, pharmaceutical,
fossil and nuclear power generation, metals and water treatment. GSE Systems
is headquartered in Columbia, Maryland with offices in Georgia, Louisiana,
Texas, Arizona, Pennsylvania, North and South Carolina, and its overseas

This news release contains forward-looking statements that involve risks
and uncertainties. The actual future results of GSE Systems may differ
materially due to a number of factors, including but not limited to delays in
introduction of products or enhancements, size and timing of individual
orders, rapid technological changes, market acceptance of new products and
competition. These and other factors are more fully discussed in the
Company's annual report on Form 10-K.
