Worldwide Flight Services Awarded Continental Service Contract for St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Island Airport

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Worldwide Flight
Services was selected to provide passenger and ramp services for Continental
Airlines (NYSE: CAL) at the St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Island (STT) Airport
beginning Dec. 16.
The new Worldwide services will coincide with the initiation of new daily
nonstop service by Continental Airlines between New York/Newark and STT.
"Continental's new route to St. Thomas is a result of our efforts to build
our underdeveloped hub in the New York area," said Mike Fauser, Regional
Manager Operations Caribbean for Continental. "We are looking forward to the
success of this route based on the strength of the local market, as well as
connecting traffic."
"We are certainly proud to add Continental Airlines to our growing list of
clients at STT airport," said Joanne Bohr, Worldwide Flight Service's General
Manager at STT. "We'll be providing first-class ramp and passenger services
to help ensure that Continental's new daily flights run very smoothly."
Worldwide currently serves five additional airlines at St. Thomas,
including American Airlines (ramp services), US Airways (passenger services),
LIAT (security and ramp services), Delta Air Lines (cargo and security
services) and American Eagle (ramp, cargo and security services).
The company also serves a number of charter companies at STT and will
begin providing passenger and ramp services for United Airlines on Oct. 23.
Worldwide also provides services to Continental, Continental Express and
Continental Micronesia at ten other airports throughout the United States and
Canada.
Continental Airlines is the fifth largest airline in the U.S., and offers
more than 2,200 departures daily to 130 domestic and 85 international
destinations. Continental has won first or second place Frequent Flyer
Magazine and J.D. Power awards for four consecutive years.
Worldwide Flight Services is a world leader in comprehensive, top-quality
ground services for the aviation industry. The company provides a full range
of cargo, passenger and ramp handling services, as well as maintenance,
fueling and management services on behalf of 300 airlines and airport
authorities in more than 90 key locations around the world.
Worldwide was formerly known as AMR Services, a subsidiary of AMR
Corporation, until it was purchased by the New York based merchant bank,
Castle Harlan, Inc. Strengthening its position as one of the world's largest
independent aviation service providers, the company recently acquired Miami
Aircraft Support, Inc. in Florida and Aerolink International, Inc. of
Pittsburgh, Pa.
