New Game Center Lets Customers Play Selection of
WildTangent's Games Online
NEW YORK and SEATTLE, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- It's World Series time and
Verizon Online customers can step up to the "virtual" plate and bat against
big leaguers' actual pitches with FOXSports.com's "Hit the Pros" game. This
and many other games-on-demand are now available to try for free on Verizon
Online's new Game Center.
According to Datamonitor, a UK-based research firm, the market for online
games will reach $2.9 billion in 2005, up from $670 million this year.
Another research report estimates that 114 million people worldwide are
expected to be playing online games by 2006.
"Every generation loves games and ours are some of the most challenging,
fast, and enjoyable ever," said John Wimsatt, vice president -- Marketing,
Verizon Advanced Services. "The games we now offer are even better when
played over a high-speed DSL (digital subscriber line) connection because the
action is more realistic than with a dial-up connection."
The Verizon Online Game Center, featuring WildTangent's games, includes
the popular Blasterball 2 and Blackhawk Striker games. Customers can play a
demonstration version of all the action, puzzle, sports and arcade games for
free before deciding whether to buy and download the full versions at
http://dsllive.verizon.net/games. Prices for the games range from $9.99 to
$19.99. The Center also has gaming news headlines, chat rooms, tips and
tricks.
"WildTangent delivers CD-ROM quality games that appeal to a broad
audience, particularly broadband users who demand the best Web entertainment
experience possible," said Greg Enell, director of business development at
WildTangent. "By adding truly compelling game content like FOXSports.com's
'Hit the Pros,' Verizon Online is providing the type of value-added offerings
that consumers want."
New WildTangent games, including upcoming releases, will be added to the
Game Center this fall.
