Siemens Announces General Availability of Soarian(TM) Clinical Access And Soarian Cardiology

State-of-the-Art Technology Incorporates Clinical Workflow into Every Step
                             of the Care Process

MALVERN, Pa., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Siemens Medical Solutions
today announced that the first components of its Soarian health information
solution (HIS) -- Soarian Clinical Access and Soarian Cardiology -- are both
generally available to the healthcare industry.
Soarian Clinical Access is the clinical repository that is built for the
web, giving clinicians real-time access to the complete patient record
(including images and data) from any workstation within a healthcare
enterprise, the home or office computer, or medical imaging devices,
e.g. X-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR), etc. Carilion
Health System (Roanoke, VA) and The Chester County Hospital (West Chester, PA)
are the beta sites for Soarian Clinical Access that recently went live on the
solution. Utilizing Soarian's smart user interface and worklisting functions,
both customers were able to reduce training times and speed delivery of its
value to their clinical staff. Upon this first phase of implementation,
Soarian Clinical Access began populating the clinical data repository with
patient data in preparation for the remaining Soarian components.
Soarian Cardiology leverages the workflow engineering and intuitive user
interface of the Soarian HIS, and is designed to address the specific
clinical, financial, and operational workflow challenges of the cardiac care
team. Used departmentally or in conjunction with the enterprise-wide Soarian
health information system, it provides a holistic solution to the cardiology
professional and seamless, real-time integration with the complete enterprise
patient record. The system allows users to build a continuous, comprehensive
electronic patient record that includes lab results, images,
ECG, physiological waveforms, and documentation.
Additionally, Soarian Cardiology supports the cardiology workflow by
providing such comprehensive tools as supply management, registry data
submissions, and the ability to keep track of images produced during
examinations. Most important, Soarian Cardiology is a true data repository
for cross-cardiology modality procedures that, combined with powerful data
query tools, can help a cardiology department be aware of the quality of care
across all cardiology procedures.
Soarian Cardiology recently went live at its beta site, South Carolina
Heart Center (SCHC) in Columbia, SC. Its CEO Tim Attebery said, "Our main
goal in implementing a state-of-the-art information technology (IT) solution
like Soarian Cardiology is to improve the quality of care we deliver to our
patients. For us, it is critical to have one place where all pertinent data
is housed so that everyone in the chain of patient service could have access
to it in real-time. Another goal is to create a more efficient system that
will allow us to provide more patients with access to service than we did in
the past. We expect to eliminate the wasted time and redundancy of our
current system in healthcare where patients are often asked the same questions
again and again. Soarian Cardiology allows for limited errors and duplication
of efforts in a healthcare setting because information is accessible anytime,
anywhere."
"We have already seen significant improvements in our efficiency. With
Soarian Cardiology, our post cath procedure final report documentation has
gone from an already efficient turnaround time of 24 hours, to less than one
hour," said Sherri Shults, SCHC's director of clinical support.
"Soarian is unlike anything ever introduced to the healthcare industry.
With it, Siemens is harnessing the power of the most sophisticated technology
to positively affect workflow processes within the healthcare system. Now we
are seeing how this is impacting the working environment of clinicians and
administrators, and helping them improve patient care and the financial health
of their organization," explained Dr. Erich Reinhardt, president and CEO of
Siemens Medical Solutions.
