TKT Announces Date of Third Quarter 2003 Financial Results and Investor Meeting at ASHG

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Transkaryotic
Therapies, Inc. (Nasdaq: TKTX) announced today that it will report third
quarter 2003 financial results on Wednesday, October 29, 2003 before the open
of U.S. financial markets.  In connection with this announcement, TKT will
host a conference call and live audio webcast on Wednesday, October 29, 2003
at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time to discuss its financial results, development
programs, and upcoming events.

    ASHG Event
    In addition, TKT will hold an investor meeting on Friday, November 7, 2003
in conjunction with the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) Annual
Meeting in Los Angeles, California to discuss long-term Phase I/II data of
iduronate-2-sulfatase for the treatment of Hunter syndrome. The event will be
held from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, November 7, 2003 at the
