UPDATE: Fort Pitt Tunnel - Outbound and Inbound Lanes - to Close This Weekend

    PITTSBURGH, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- PENNDOT announces today that the
outbound and inbound lanes of the Fort Pitt Tunnels will close for electrical
utilities work this weekend.  Beginning Friday, October 26 at 10:00 p.m., the
outbound and inbound lanes of the tunnel will close reopening Saturday,
October 27 at 8:00 p.m.
    As part of their $12.8 million contract, Wellington Power will complete
work inside the tunnel coordinating the installation of a new electrical
system by Duquesne Light Company.
    Outbound alternate routes for this weekends closure include:

    -- Follow I-376 (Parkway East) to the Fort Duquesne Bridge.  Cross the
        bridge and follow to the West End Bridge.  Cross the bridge and follow
        signs for Route 51 South around the West End Circle.  Follow signs for
        the airport.

    -- Follow I-279 south to the Route 65/West End Bridge exit.  Cross the
        West End Bridge and follow signs for Route 51 South around the West
        End Circle.  Follow signs for I-279 south/Airport.

    -- Follow the Boulevard of the Allies to the Liberty Bridge exit.  Cross
        the bridge and enter the Liberty Tunnels.  Once through the tunnels
        follow signs for Route 51 North to I-279 south/Airport.

    Inbound alternate routes for this weekend closure include:

    -- Follow Route 51 south to the Liberty Tunnels and cross the Liberty
        Bridge into downtown Pittsburgh.

    -- Follow Route 51 north through the West End Circle across the West End
        Bridge to Route 65 south/North Shore Expressway.  Once on
        Route 65/North Shore Expressway follow across the Fort Duquesne Bridge
        exiting at the Stanwix Street exit into downtown Pittsburgh.

    -- Follow Route 51 north through the West End Circle to Carson Street.
        Follow Carson Street to the Fort Pitt Bridge and into downtown
        Pittsburgh.
