Paris edges out Palin, Obamas edge out McCains in 'best costume category'
DALLAS, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- As November's presidential election
draws closer, TRUE.com, the leading scientifically based online dating
site, took to the polls and surveyed today's singles on politics and
Halloween during this election year. With more than 1,300 responses, TRUE's
findings show that the economy and politics is on singles' minds as they
look towards All Hallow's Eve.
-- 34 percent of women and 25 percent of men said they will stay home and
hand out candy rather than go out for Halloween this year;
-- 24.11 percent of women said they would dress as Paris Hilton for
Halloween narrowly edging out Sarah Palin at 23.87 percent;
-- 46 percent of women and 35 percent of men said the SAFEST place to
meet their Halloween date is online.
"With the slowing economy, it is not surprising that most singles are
staying home this year for Halloween. We believe online dating it is the
most economical way to meet other singles, especially in these trying
times. We are also thrilled most singles believe online is the safest place
to meet potential dates. Singles should continue to keep their safety
paramount and only use online dating sites that perform criminal background
screenings like TRUE," said TRUE.com founder and CEO Herb Vest.
TRUE.com's Halloween survey also found the following:
Who's behind the mask?
When it comes to costume choice, men want to be Indiana Jones (58
percent).
-- Dressing up like Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was
much more popular (10 percent) than Republican candidate John McCain
(4 percent);
-- Both men and women agree that when it comes to sexy costumes,
politicians rank the lowest at 1 percent. The highest was a French
Maid costume at 48 percent.
Your best match?
When asked which couples costumes were the coolest:
-- 36 percent of men picked James Bond/Bond Girl while 38 percent of
women picked Devil/Angel;
-- Women slightly preferred Barack and Michelle Obama (9 percent of women
to 4 percent of men) as a cool couple choice, and both genders
preferred the Obamas (5 percent) to the McCains (2 percent).
Hot and Sexy
Among those surveyed, 34 percent of women said a cowboy costume drives
them wild, while 23 percent of men thought dressing up like a secret agent
would drive women crazy!
-- Women - behind cowboy, women felt secret agent (19 percent), celebrity
(14 percent), superhero (11 percent), musician (10 percent), Wall
Street broker (5 percent) were the sexiest costumes for men. Not hot
were the priest and the politician.
-- Men - behind French Maid, men believed cowgirl (18 percent) would
light their fire the most, followed by celebrity (8 percent),
superhero (5 percent), and nun (4 percent).
The big scary screen
When asked about the scariest movies, more than half (54 percent) of
men and women responded "anything that gives me an excuse to get closer to
my date." When pressed:
-- "The Exorcist" won with 14 percent;
-- "Halloween" came next with 9 percent;
-- "Friday the 13th" (7 percent) just barely edged out "A Nightmare on
Elm Street" and "Scream" (both 6 percent).
And of course what Halloween survey would be complete without asking
what would be the best place for a vampire to bite? The results:
-- 49 percent of men believe the inner thigh.
-- 61 percent of women believe the neck.
