HARLOW, England, Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Systems Limited (RSL)
has been selected to supply Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems for the
new Astute Class submarines. The contract has been awarded by EADS Defence
Systems and Electronics (UK) Limited and is for three Successor IFF (SIFF)
Naval Transponder Systems.
RSL is already the UK MoD's prime contractor for the overarching SIFF
programme. The award for Astute now enables the company to further expand its
SIFF capabilities within the UK's new submarine build programmes.
Raytheon Systems Limited, the UK-based subsidiary of Raytheon Company,
employs over 1900 people throughout the country. The company is a major
supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence and as well as SIFF has won programmes
such as ASTOR (Airborne Stand-Off Radar). As either prime or as a team
member, RSL is involved in bids for other programmes such as the Royal Navy's
Future Carrier (CVF), the British Army's Light Forces Anti-Tank Guided Weapon
and the RAF's Precision Guided Bomb. RSL also designs, develops and
manufactures ATC radar and anti-jam navigation systems. It has a software
engineering facility and is a specialist supplier of semiconductors and power
modules, manufacturing complex electronic systems, sub-systems and assemblies.
The company also undertakes aircraft servicing and modification.
