Edens & Avant Completes Atlanta Redevelopment Project

    ATLANTA, Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Edens & Avant, the nation's leading
private retail real estate company, announced today another urban
redevelopment is complete -- the Marietta Trade Center will celebrate its
Wal-Mart Supercenter grand opening October 26 at 7:00 AM with Grand Opening
festivities.
Work on the Marietta Trade Center began when Edens & Avant approached
Wal-Mart to open a store on the 33-acre site previously abandoned by two big-
box retailers. The Company then worked diligently with the local community and
City of Marietta officials to bring their vision for the center to fruition.
"Transforming an existing, abandoned retail space into a thriving center
of activity is what the Marietta Revitalization District is all about. Working
with Edens & Avant was very positive as they shared our goals for the center
-- making excellent use of the land and answering a retail need of our
residents," said Michael Donahoo, Industrial Development Manager with the City
of Marietta.
Marietta Trade Center is one of many redevelopment projects the Company
has in progress and exemplifies Edens & Avant's strong commitment to
communities, neighborhoods and the environment. "This center is an excellent
example of where our focus is -- working with local communities to keep
shopping places convenient and preventing unnecessary sprawl," said Lyle
Darnall, Edens & Avant Vice President of Development for the Southeast.
This focus spans the Company's portfolio throughout the East Coast. Edens
& Avant is near completion of a significant redevelopment in Boston, MA --
South Bay Center. In a city where working with neighborhoods and
municipalities is a make or break aspect of any project, this transformation
of an abandoned industrial facility on the outskirts of the city's financial
district is a major enhancement for residents of Boston and the surrounding
neighborhoods. City officials helped expedite the project through permitting
in record time.
"Like the neighborhoods we support, Edens & Avant is a staunch advocate of
adaptive reuse when possible, always preferring to develop or redevelop where
infrastructure already exists. Everyone wins in this scenario -- the
community, the retailers and the municipalities," continued Darnall.
The Marietta project comes on the heels of a flurry of activity in Atlanta
for Edens & Avant. The Company acquired Lenox Marketplace, the 430,000 square
foot center across the street from Phipps Plaza, as well as a 40-acre
development site in Braselton, GA.
Edens & Avant develops, owns and operates neighborhood shopping places in
primary markets throughout the East Coast, including 16 in Atlanta. Their 15-
member regional office located at 500 North Park manages over 2.2 million
square feet in retail space in this MSA and oversees the Atlanta development
pipeline in excess of $100 million.
Focusing on innovative development and redevelopment together with key
acquisitions in urban areas, Edens & Avant has built an overall portfolio of
more than 180 retail centers in 17 states. The Company also has Regional
Headquarters in Boston, MA, Washington, DC, and Columbia, SC. For additional
