In the Midst of California Wildfires, Countrywide Offers Important Information for Homeowners and Renters

CALABASAS, Calif., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Countrywide Financial
Corporation (NYSE: CFC) extends its deepest sympathy to the homeowners,
renters and victims devastated by the current Southern California
wildfires. The company has implemented its emergency response and crisis
management plans and is eager to do everything possible to help those
affected by the fires that continue to burn throughout the seven Southern
California counties.
"The destruction created by the Southern California wildfires calls for
our focused efforts to help our customers during this difficult period,"
said Bob James, president and chief executive officer of Countrywide
Insurance Group. "Countrywide's emergency response team has implemented its
disaster recovery and relief efforts, and we have insurance representatives
on the ground to assist our impacted customers."
Countrywide Insurance Services offers the following information to
assist its homeowners and renters impacted by the wildfires:
-- Homeowners insurance is often the first place most homeowners will turn
to for guidance in their rebuilding efforts. As lenders have an
interest in the property, they often work with insurance providers and
homeowners to monitor repairs and speed the rebuilding of homes.

-- Tenants who have purchased renters insurance may be eligible to file
claims to replace their personal property, including televisions,
stereo equipment and other household items. Since these personal
possessions may not be covered under a landlord's insurance policy,
fire victims who have renters insurance may be reimbursed for effects
related to additional living expenses, personal liability, and personal
       property coverage.

-- Some of our customers may have also lost their automobiles in these
fires. Auto insurance customers should call their insurance provider
for possible repair or replacement of their vehicle (if comprehensive
physical damage is on the affected vehicle). In addition, some
customers may have rental reimbursement coverage to provide for a
rental car for a covered loss.
For customers of Countrywide Insurance Services - 888-768-2096
Customers who purchased their insurance through Countrywide Insurance
Services and have experienced property or auto losses may receive
information about how to file a claim or ask questions regarding their
insurance policies.
Mortgage lenders can also be a valuable resource during these difficult
times. Homeowners experiencing financial difficulty as a result of
wildfires or other natural disasters should contact their lender
immediately. Lenders are often willing to review individual circumstances
and recommend ways for homeowners to keep their homes while working out
financial difficulties.
    For Countrywide mortgage customers - 800 669-6076
A toll-free hotline has been established for wildfire victims with
questions and requests related to their existing Countrywide mortgage.
Countrywide will work with every borrower who has lost his or her home and
encourages them to call the hotline as soon as possible.
Countrywide continues to provide home loans in the affected areas.
Customers who have a loan in process with the company should call their
local representative for information on the status of the loan.
