1724 165th Street in the Hammond Mills shopping center, will be open daily
from 6 a.m. to midnight to serve customers.
"We are very excited about this opportunity to open our first Indiana Food
4 Less store in Hammond," said Jay Cummins, Vice President and General Manager
of Food 4 Less' Midwest Division. "We think Hammond will be a great Food
4 Less market and we look forward to offering our unique brand of friendly
service to customers who appreciate quality and value at everyday low prices."
Food 4 Less is a unique hybrid supermarket/warehouse store specially
designed for customers looking for quality, selection and value. Shoppers
visiting Food 4 Less stores enjoy supermarket quality with a diverse selection
of products, destination departments and special services -- all at the lowest
prices in town.
The new Hammond Food 4 Less store is opening in a formerly vacant building
that previously housed a Dominick's grocery store. The building has sat empty
for nearly three years. Food 4 Less acquired the vacant Dominick's site
earlier this year. The building, located on 165th Street west of Indianapolis
Boulevard, has since been completely remodeled in preparation for its November
6 grand opening as a Food 4 Less.
The new Food 4 Less is expected to help revive the area near the Woodmar
Mall and attract additional commercial development to the community.
"We are very pleased to cast a vote of confidence in Hammond with this
major investment in the community," said Cummins. "Our new store is bringing
shopping convenience, services and jobs to Hammond. At our new Hammond Food
4 Less our goal is to offer our customers the finest service, the best
selection and the highest quality foods at exceptional value."
The new Hammond Food 4 Less will employ more than 180 full-time and
part-time staff members. More than 100 staff members are Hammond residents.
Hammond Food 4 Less shoppers are sure to enjoy Store Director Jason Cook.
Cook, who boasts more than 20 years of experience in the grocery industry,
recently relocated to the greater Chicagoland area from Southern California,
where he successfully managed several high-volume stores for Food 4 Less.
"We're excited and we're ready," said Cook. "We've been working very hard
to get the store ready for our customers. We are eager to serve the needs of
our customers and we are committed to providing the community with the finest
products and services available."
Customers visiting the new Hammond Food 4 Less store will experience the
best that Food 4 Less has to offer, including an abundance of fresh fruits and
vegetables, meats, fish and poultry, and a grocery department stocked with
thousands of products at Food 4 Less' low everyday prices.
In the spirit of offering shoppers a true, one-stop-shopping experience,
the new Hammond Food 4 Less will also feature several specialty departments,
including a full-service delicatessen/bakery offering a complete selection of
salads, deli meats and cheeses, sandwiches-to-go, party trays, freshly
prepared take-out meals, as well as fresh breads, cookies, rolls, pies and
custom-decorated cakes for all occasions.
Shoppers on a budget will also enjoy the store's large club pack section,
"Wall of Values" area featuring many name brand products at special discounted
prices, and "98-cent" aisle with hundreds of products offered at 98 cents
each.
To serve shoppers, the store boasts 14 checkstands and offers a wide range
of special services, including postage stamps, film developing, motorized
shopping carts for customers with mobility impairments and specially-designed
shopping carts with infant carriers. The store also has been outfitted with
state-of-the-art energy efficient equipment and lighting, and environmentally
safe refrigeration.
"We believe our new Hammond Food 4 Less store offers everything and more
of what customers are looking for in a supermarket," said Cummins. "Best of
all, at Food 4 Less we offer it all at the lowest prices in town."
As an introduction to the community, Food 4 Less will make donations
totaling $8,000 to Hammond High School, Gavit Middle/High School, Maywood
Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School. In addition, Food 4 Less
will present a $2,000 donation to the Greater Hammond Community Services, Inc.
agency.
Cummins welcomed the opportunity to assist the community.
"Food 4 Less takes an active role in every community we serve," he said.
"It is our intention to be a good corporate citizen in Hammond. We will
remain open to new ways to meet community needs and to participate in
neighborhood improvement projects."
A number of special events have also been scheduled as part of the store's
grand opening celebration from Wednesday, November 6 through Sunday,
November 10, including free food samples, giveaways and appearances by popular
costumed characters. A grand opening contest features a drawing for Food
4 Less gift certificates. In addition, the first 100 customers will receive
free phone cards ($9.98 value).
"Food 4 Less is committed to the community and to providing our customers
with exceptional service and value," Cummins said. "We want our Hammond
shoppers to let us know what they think about their new store and urge them to
tell our store staff. We look forward to serving the community for many years
to come."
The new Hammond store is the second Food 4 Less store to open in the
greater Chicagoland area this year. Food 4 Less opened its first Chicagoland
