Colin Farrell and Paris Hilton 'Scare Off' Fellow Hollywood Ghosts and Goblins as Most Preferred Halloween Dates

National Study Also Reveals What Halloween Costumes Say About an Individual's
                                 Personality

DALLAS, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- When it comes to identifying a fun date
for a Halloween party or trip to a haunted house, single women across the
country decided Colin Farrell (46.8 percent) would be a better choice over
celebrity party master P. Diddy (17 percent), according to a recent survey
conducted by TRUE(TM), a leading online relationship service. For guys, Paris
Hilton (37.56 percent), known as the ultimate Hollywood party girl, would be
the obvious choice, followed by "Sex and The City's" very sexy Kim Cattrall
(35 percent). Overall, a majority of singles surveyed this year
(49.8 percent) about Halloween trends, said that having a date was not at all
important to have fun at a Halloween bash.
Halle Berry's sexy portrayal of Catwoman this summer brought the
popularity of the 1970s character back. According to the results of the
survey, single women's choice Halloween costume this year put Catwoman in
first place (42.8 percent), followed by the sexy nurse (32.5 percent) and the
traditional witch (23.4 percent). When it came to guys, the summer movies
didn't seem to sway their preference from the biggest Halloween classic, the
fang-wearer himself. Dracula costumes were first pick (50.7 percent), with
30 percent of those surveyed choosing Spiderman and 18.4 percent selecting the
ever-popular pimp.
A large portion (46.1 percent) of the singles surveyed by TRUE admitted
that wearing a costume makes them feel less inhibited, making it easier to
approach people they find attractive.
"Costume choices are not entirely random, even if we think so," said James
Houran, Ph.D., TRUE's Chief Psychologist. "Your Halloween mask does not
really hide you -- it may well show the true you. Price, comfort and
convenience are factors, but people live a fantasy when they choose a costume,
and their choices reveal interesting parts of their inner selves."
This trend is especially apparent in the single crowd. While the TRUE
survey findings suggest that singles neither regard Halloween as an important
date night nor feel that costumes enhance the experience of flirting, singles'
preferred costumes seem to be saying something quite different. The popular
selections of Catwoman and Dracula, indicate that singles most identify with
characters that possess strong sexual overtones.
"We can think of costumes as physical caricatures of our personalities,"
added Houran. "French maids, sexy nurses and the like can represent one's own
repressed sexuality or can be a healthy expression for someone who is not very
repressed. Scary characters like vampires and zombies, show our fascination
with the macabre and the grotesque. Death has always been something we humans
are scared of, yet are drawn to, on a daily basis and sometimes especially so
on All Hallow's Eve."
