Hello Direct Awarded Patent for Automatic Phone Answering Device

With ReadiLine, Cordless Headset Users Can Manage Calls Remotely

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Hello Direct, Inc.
(Nasdaq: HELO), the leading developer and direct marketer of telephone
productivity products and a pioneer in headset technology, announced today
that the U.S. Patent Office recently issued Patent No. 5,930,354 for Hello
Direct's ReadiLine(R) remote answering device, originally introduced in 1997.
This exclusive technology enables cordless headset users to answer and
conclude calls without returning to their phones. Unlike other answering
devices, the ReadiLine can be easily installed on virtually any business
phone, and its slip clutch mechanism ensures reliable operation with any
handset. This patent is the 12th U.S. patent issued to Hello Direct for its
technological developments; many other related patents are pending.

    Pioneer in Telephone Productivity
Hello Direct developed and introduced the first cordless headset eight
years ago to give business users full mobility to find files, confer with
coworkers, and check fax machines during calls. Cordless headsets, including
Hello Direct's newest, the Cordless(TM) XLT, are connected to the handset
ports of proprietary or digital business telephones to preserve the multiple
lines, displays, and feature keys used in business telephony. Unfortunately,
the phone's handset must be lifted to begin the call on the cordless headset.
Hello Direct's ReadiLine lifts the handset automatically even when the user is
up to 100 feet away from the phone.
When the phone rings, ReadiLine sends an audible signal to the cordless
headset. To answer the call, the user simply lowers the microphone boom on
the headset, which signals ReadiLine to answer the call. ReadiLine lifts the
handset, and the call is answered, even though the user is away from the
phone. To hang up at the end of the call, the user raises the microphone
boom. ReadiLine's self-adjusting mechanism lifts and lowers the handset
quickly and reliably with no danger of damage to the telephone.
"The ReadiLine accessory was developed in response to requests from users
of our cordless headsets," according to Dion Blundell, Director of Product
Marketing at Hello Direct. "Many new users now tell us that ReadiLine was a
key reason they chose Hello Direct Cordless headsets."
