GN Netcom, Inc. Introduces GN Express-PC, A Lightweight, High Performance Headset For PC Sound Applications

GN Express-PC offers resellers and OEMs a comfortable, quality headset
alternative for use with speech recognition, computer telephony, Internet
                      telephony, and video conferencing.

    NASHUA, N.H., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- (SPEECHTEK 98 -- Booth #313)
GN Netcom, Inc., a world-leading manufacturer of high quality headsets,
announces the GN Express-PC headset, designed for PC communications users.
The GN Express-PC headset offers high quality sound to maximize performance
with continuous dictation speech recognition, computer telephony, and video
conferencing applications. These applications require superior sound quality
to achieve optimum accuracy and are an important factor in the rapidly
expanding adoption of headsets by computer users. The GN Express-PC is a
full-featured headset that receives sound through a high performance speaker
and has two interchangeable wearing styles for customized comfort.
The GN Express-PC headset features a low distortion microphone in a
specially tuned housing. This microphone delivers the flat and extended
frequency response (100-5500 Hz) and noise cancellation characteristics needed
for continuous dictation software developed by such companies as Dragon
Systems, IBM, and Lernout and Hauspie (L&H). GN Express-PC's microphone
system was designed with the input of speech recognition software developers
to ensure that the sound transmitted delivers superior accuracy. The noise
canceling microphone is positioned at the end of a flexible boom so it can be
easily adjusted close to the speaker's mouth, maximizing the microphone's
performance in even the noisiest user environments. Both the cord and
microphone are shielded from RF interference so monitors, phones, and radios
do not degrade performance.
Resellers and OEMs can now offer their customers a high quality, durable,
and comfortable headset, which can be customized for features, colors, and
logos. GN Express-PC is compatible with most soundcards using the standard
3.5 mm phono jack and has a suggested MSRP of $59.
"GN Express-PC is the result of our expertise and understanding of how to
optimize a headset for natural speech quality," said Carol J. Meier, vice
president of marketing for GN Netcom, Inc. "With our extensive manufacturing
and sales and service capabilities worldwide, GN Netcom, Inc. is uniquely
positioned to roll out this product to the growing international PC sound
application markets."
In an independent study to validate and improve the headset design,
GN Express was tested against headsets from Andrea Electronics, Clearvox,
Plantronics, and Telex. Participants preferred the comfort and ease of use of
the GN Express-PC convertible headset over the competitive headsets tested.
The study also confirmed the importance of convertibility -- the ability to
change between an on-the-ear wearing style and an over-the-head wearing style
for a headset that will please every user.
"Participants stated that the GN Express headset was small, light, and
compact; because of its simplicity, it was easy to understand and quick to put
on," said Beth Loring, human factors specialist at IDEO, the independent
design and consulting firm in Lexington, Massachusetts that completed the
research. "GN Netcom used our additional recommendations to make the
GN Express even more comfortable and easy to use for the novice headset user."
