EVEREN Securities Adds Three Analysts to its Equity Research Department

    CHICAGO, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- EVEREN Securities, Inc. today announced
the appointment of three new analysts to its equity research department,
enhancing the firm's coverage of investment opportunities in healthcare and
telecommunications.
    John M. Putnam, senior vice president of healthcare medical devices; Bruce
A. Hochstadt, senior vice president of healthcare services; and Nimal
Vallipuram, senior vice president, telecommunications/semiconductors, have
joined the firm, reporting to Edward E. Dunleavy, executive vice president and
director of EVEREN's equity research group.

addition of these individuals," Dunleavy said.  "The recent integration of our
research, trading, institutional sales and investment banking functions into

    Putnam joins EVEREN from Leerink Swann & Company, where he served as
senior vice president and director of research.  He joined Leerink Swann in
1997, where he founded the institutional research department, specializing in
healthcare.  Putnam, a chartered financial analyst, received a bachelor's
degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and a master's degree in business
administration from George Washington University.
    Hochstadt joins EVEREN from Jefferies & Company, where he was a vice
president and senior equity research analyst since 1997.  He earned a
bachelor's degree from Harvard University, a doctor of medicine degree from
Boston University School of Medicine and a master's degree in business
administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
    Vallipuram joins EVEREN from Bear Stearns Companies Inc., where he was
senior semiconductor analyst since May 1996.  He earned a bachelor's degree
from Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India and a master's degree
in business administration from Northeastern University.
