Phone.com Completes Acquisition of APiON

    REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Phone.com, Inc.
(Nasdaq: PHCM), a leading provider of software that enables the delivery of
Internet-based services to mass-market wireless telephones, today announced
that on October 26, 1999, it successfully completed the acquisition of the WAP
products and related operations of APiON Ltd., a WAP software supplier based
in Belfast, Northern Ireland.  In conjunction with the acquisition, Phone.com
issued an aggregate of 1,196,513 shares of Common Stock to the former
shareholders of APiON.  In addition, Phone.com will issue common stock and
cash in the aggregate amount of up to $14.1 million subject to certain
conditions, to the APiON employees joining Phone.com and to the former APiON
employees who will be employed in APiON's non-WAP related services business,
which was not acquired by Phone.com.  The transaction was accounted for as a
purchase.

    APiON is a leading European WAP software supplier with commercial
relationships for delivery of WAP software to 10 GSM wireless network
operators including Swisscom and Sonera.  APiON has particular expertise in
GSM Intelligent Networks, wireless data and WAP technology.  The acquisition
further increases Phone.com's strong technical and sales presence in North
America, Europe and Asia.
    APiON's Irish facilities will form the basis of Phone.com's first product
development center outside of Silicon Valley and will also act as the support
center for carrier deployments in Europe.  The combined resources of Phone.com
and APiON will enable the company to provide customers with greater technical
expertise and support.
