improving overall business performance, and increasing ROI.

tools required to effectively and efficiently orchestrate complex
business processes via multiple systems and analyze business data

DUBLIN, Calif., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY),
a leading enterprise infrastructure and integration company, today previewed
Ohio at the Gartner Application Integration and Web Services Fall 2002
conference. Ohio is the next generation integration solution that allows
business analysts to easily plan and manage integration efforts minimizing the
support of extensive IT resources. With this Sybase solution, business
analysts will be able to use intuitive user interfaces to give CEOs the
ability to consolidate worldwide sales and marketing information, factory
managers notifications of delays in product schedules and customer support
representatives access to current customer and product information.

"Today, enterprise-wide connectivity through application integration is
simply not enough," said Billy Ho, senior vice president and general manager
for Sybase's e-Business Division. "Businesses are demanding on the fly
integration and analysis of critical business information in order to monitor
real-time business performance and manage shifts in the marketplace. Sybase
provides an open, standards-based, flexible solution that allows companies to
leverage investments to integrate internal and external Web services
applications and provide businesses with the ability to analyze and act on
information in real-time."
Ohio bridges the gap between "old" and "new" technology paradigms,
automating the complex interactions between popular and legacy applications,
J2EE(TM) components, Web services and human interfaces while focusing on
business process optimization and reducing costs. It is comprised of
application integration, data transformation, business process management,
Sybase's New Era of Network's patented business rules engine and a new, easy
to use graphical user interface (GUI) in a single operational unit. Through
the adoption and use of this new solution, businesses can quickly and easily
analyze and consolidate business information from multiple sources and
optimize existing business processes and data. This data can then be
distributed or redirected in a timely fashion to key personnel throughout the
enterprise, providing them with the most current information to help them make
informed business decisions.
According to a March 2002 report titled, "Real-World Lessons for
Systematic Application Integration," written by Gartner, Inc. analyst Roy
Schulte, "Architects and developers spend an increasing amount of time and
attention on the issues of building and maintaining the integration links
among heterogeneous systems. During the past six years, the management
practices and design principles for application integration have evolved
significantly." He continued, concluding, "Mainstream enterprises should
leverage the lessons learned by the early adopters. Systematic integration
strategies aim to reduce the time, costs and complexity of building
connections among multiple application systems."
Sybase's Ohio easily orchestrates, audits and streamlines business
processes using simple interfaces and wizards. By separating the logical and
physical architectures, business users can view visual process models.
Technical personnel can then bind and deploy these processes using advanced
configuration and connection tools and mapping GUIs. Additional business
benefits of Ohio include:

    -- Wizard-based Installation and Configuration -- GUI-based Wizards speed
users through the product installation and configuration process. A
pre-configured demo illustrates a process model and implementation
       example.
-- Support for Web services -- Ohio supports Web services functionality,
including simple (WSDL, UDDI, and SOAP), collaborative (ebXML and
       RosettaNet) and .Net.
-- Native Support for XML and HL7 -- Ohio provides support for the most
widely used internal system language, XML, and HL-7 for the healthcare
       industry.
-- Support for numerous vendor platforms and leading J2EE-compliant
application servers; complies with industry standards to ensure
       seamless deployment.

Sybase will preview this new technology at the Gartner Application
Integration and Web Services Fall 2002 conference being held October 28-30 in
Chicago. A presentation titled, "Information Orchestration in Real World
Enterprises," will be delivered by Bob Breton, senior director of Product
Strategy for the e-Business Division of Sybase, on Monday, October 28 at
3:15 p.m. EDT. Product availability is expected in the first half of 2003.
