Statement of Azeezaly S. Jaffer, Vice President, Public Affairs and Communications of the U.S. Postal Service Re: Florida Ballots

WASHINGTON, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by
Azeezaly S. Jaffer, Vice President, Public Affairs and Communications of the
U.S. Postal Service regarding Florida ballots:

Postal Service employees throughout Broward County recognize the
importance of handling election materials quickly, accurately and
professionally.
And that is exactly what they are doing.
The Postal Service continues to deliver all absentee ballots as they are
received to voters across Broward County.
Allegations linking missing absentee ballots in Broward County, Florida to
the Postal Service are groundless at best and, in fact, insulting to hard-
working and dedicated postal employees throughout Florida. Thousands of these
employees, despite their own personal hardships, demonstrated their commitment
to those they serve by doing their best to keep their communities connected,
despite the difficulties presented during the four recent hurricanes.
A thorough review of mail processing and delivery operations by the Postal
Inspection Service and South Florida district postal officials has found no
backlogs or systemic delays in the delivery of absentee ballots. Processing
is current. Ballots that have been received have been delivered.
As a result of hurricane damage to many postal facilities, some offices
have been providing Sunday mail delivery service since that time to keep mail
current. Those offices will provide Sunday delivery this weekend, as well.
Local postal officials will continue to monitor the absentee ballot
situation through the closing days of this year's election campaign to make
sure that every ballot placed into the mail-stream -- by County election
officials to voters, and by voters back to the Broward County Board of
Elections -- continues to be promptly processed and delivered.
