Peritus Expands Management Team, Names William J. Sawyer Vice President of Client Operations

Former PSDI Executive Will Assume Responsibility for Day-To-Day
Operations and Fulfillment of Professional Year 2000 Services to Clients
                                  Worldwide

BILLERICA, Mass., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Peritus Software Services, Inc.
(Nasdaq: PTUS), a leader in software evolution outsourcing services and
mass change technologies including Year 2000 renovations, today announced that
it has expanded its management team by naming William J. Sawyer as Vice
President of Client Operations.
Mr. Sawyer joins Peritus from PSDI, where he was Executive Vice
President of Operations. He brings his extensive experience in managing
many facets of a growing business via progressively responsible positions he
held over a nineteen year period, including Vice President of the
Professional Services, Quality Assurance, and Customer Support areas. PSDI is
a leading software developer in the Computerized Maintenance Management
Systems (CMMS) market, creating and supporting products to assist
organizations in maintaining high-value capital assets such as plants,
facilities, and production equipment. Mr. Sawyer also played a key role in
transitioning PSDI from a private to a public company in 1994.
"We're pleased to have someone with Bill's experience, expertise, and
character," said Peritus President and COO Douglas Catalano. "His proven
operational skills and perspectives will help Peritus as we enter a new
era of growth, enabling us to manage our most valuable assets and retain
the innovative team-based culture we've developed."
"Peritus is an exciting company with an outstanding reputation," said
Sawyer. "Its a technology company uniquely positioned with products and
services to meet the needs of a large and demanding market. The Year
2000 provides an ideal showcase for Peritus' capabilities, but it's the
mass change technologies and the dynamic teaming approach at the core of
those capabilities that distinguishes Peritus and will drive its growth
well beyond the Year 2000."
Year 2000 refers to a serious problem many large computer users will
face at the turn of the century when millions of lines of software code
that run the world's most mission-critical systems are unable to handle
dates beyond 1999. Peritus is an expert at helping companies cope with
massive software changes such as solving their Year 2000 problem, and
has become the technology choice for leading service providers and a
number of major financial services companies. Peritus technology has
already been used to renovate millions of lines of code.
Sawyer brings a proven ability to manage the client operations of a
growing public company to his assignment at Peritus. At the time of his
departure from PSDI, he had helped the company to achieve a market
leadership position within the total CMMS market, estimated at nearly $1
billion. Although market share data is not available for Year 2000
vendors, the total market is estimated at several billions of dollars,
and Peritus is a recognized thought and technology leader in the Year
2000 field.
Sawyer lives with his wife, Pamela, in Acton, MA, and has two sons. He
is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, from
which he holds a Bachelors degree in Aeronautical Engineering and a
Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S. Naval
Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
