SEATTLE, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- THE GOOD GUYS! (Nasdaq: GGUY) exhibited a
piece of history today -- John Glenn's historic return to space on the first
national broadcast in High Definition format (HDTV).
At 10:00 this morning, October 29, THE GOOD GUYS! displayed their digital
TV to customers in their Bellevue, Washington and Torrance (Del Amo),
California stores so that they could share in the excitement. "Not only were
visitors viewing John Glenn's historic shuttle launch, they were also viewing
the launch of broadcasting HDTV nationally," said Kari Seward, HDTV
spokesperson for THE GOOD GUYS!
Although many of the major markets are targeting a November 1 start for
digital broadcasting, the national networks previewed digital HDTV early for
this special event. Not all markets are digital broadcast-ready yet, but
those that are were able to see the future of TV broadcasting with the Glenn
launch if they had access to one of the new digital HDTV televisions.
The special showing of the Glenn Launch at THE GOOD GUYS! is happening at
the same time that the company is demonstrating the features of HDTV in many
of their stores throughout their markets. These demonstrations include a
series of special customer events where thousands of people are experiencing
for the first time the remarkable, almost 3D clarity, of a high definition
picture.
All THE GOOD GUYS! stores are in the process of rolling out the capability
to display true high definition content to customers every day, all day long
with a specially-built HD player that will not rely on broadcasters' limited
initial programming.
