DALLAS, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Fleming (NYSE: FLM) today announced that
it will open a new division in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Division is scheduled
to be operational and begin servicing the Kmart and Kmart supercenter stores
in the region with food and consumable products in July 2001.
In February, Fleming and Kmart announced a 10-year, $4.5 billion-a-year
alliance that includes the procurement and distribution of substantially all
food and consumable products to Kmart's stores.
"This decision comes after careful analysis and review of the business
operations needed to successfully service our Kmart customer as well as other
retailers in the region," said Steve Davis, Executive Vice President and
President, Wholesale. "Our focus now is on the smooth transition of Kmart
business to the growing Fleming distribution network and on continuing to
provide quality service and products to all of our retail customers."
The new distribution center is located at 3405 Meyer Road, Fort Wayne,
Indiana.
In a related move, Tom Bayless has joined Fleming as Division President of
the new Fort Wayne, Indiana Division, effective immediately.
Most recently, Bayless was Senior Vice President and General Manager of
distribution in Poland for McLane International. Prior to McLane, he was with
Core Mark International as a Division President. Tom has more than 21 years
in the distribution business.
