Rainbow Foods, Food4Less, Yes!Less and Fleming Customers and Associates Raise $400,000 for American Red Cross

DALLAS, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Fleming (NYSE: FLM) today announced that
its customers and associates have raised $400,000 to support the American Red
Cross relief efforts. This support was provided by customers of Fleming's
Rainbow Foods, Food4Less and Yes!Less stores, and from Fleming wholesale,
retail and staff associates and suppliers. Fleming also matched all associate
contributions dollar-for-dollar.
In addition, associates have coordinated multiple blood drives in Fleming
divisions across the country. The company is further supporting the relief
efforts with in-kind donations of product.
"I am very proud of the generous donations and other relief support from
our customers and associates around the country," said Fleming Chairman and
CEO Mark Hansen. "Immediately after launching our relief plan on
September 11, customers, associates and suppliers quickly and repeatedly
demonstrated their compassion for those affected by our nation's tragedy.
Whether the individual contributions were large or small, they are all
important. I thank each of you for stepping forward and taking action to
help."
Associate donations have come from direct contributions and creative
fundraising, such as bake sales, car washes, garage sales and providing
American flag lapel pins in exchange for contributions. Associates at one
Fleming Division voted to relinquish their upcoming associate picnic so that
the earmarked funds could be redirected to the American Red Cross. Several
divisions and offices hosted a "jeans day" for the many associates who
contributed to the relief efforts. In-kind contributions from the company
have included a truckload of canned soda pop donated to the American Red Cross
for the rescue workers, and bottled water provided for the healthcare workers
at a blood drive.
Through Fleming's 86-year history, the company has built a strong legacy
as a central supporter of community events and has taken a leadership role in
responding to national disasters and other times of need.
Fleming is the industry leader in distribution and has a growing presence
in value retailing. Fleming's primary business is buying and selling
merchandise. The company serves approximately 3,000 supermarkets including
more than 700 North American stores of global supermarketer IGA and other
