Pac-West Telecomm to Provide Wholesale Dial Access to ISPs And Enterprise Customers Over Cisco Powered Network

    STOCKTON, Calif., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Pac-West Telecomm, Inc.
(Nasdaq: PACW), a rapidly growing provider of integrated communications
services to Internet service providers (ISPs) and business customers in the
western U.S., today announced that it will deploy the Cisco AS5800 Universal
Access Server to power its wholesale dial service. In addition, Pac-West has
been selected for membership in the Cisco Powered Network (CPN) program, a
select group of service providers delivering their services with Cisco
equipment.
Pac-West has secured a lease facility of up to $20 million to be used for
the sole purpose and integration of Cisco networking products and services.
Under terms of the agreement, Pac-West has agreed to an initial $10 million
purchase of AS5800 equipment and has committed to purchase an additional
$10 million of equipment within the next twelve months.
With its Cisco network infrastructure in place, Pac-West will begin
offering Cisco Powered Network-based wholesale dial access to ISPs and
enterprise customers in California, Nevada, Washington, Colorado, and Arizona
through its managed modem service, which includes access lines, modems,
routers, authentication service, and technical support. By accessing
Pac-West's network, ISPs and enterprise customers can quickly establish a
presence throughout Pac-West's western U.S. footprint and offer their users
reliable access to the Internet through a local call, without the capital
expense of building and maintaining their own Internet access network.
"Cisco shares our vision that the IP network is the foundation for
delivering integrated and cost-effective solutions that help our customers
drive their business and lower their costs," said Joel Effron, Pac-West's
Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing. "Pac-West's designation as a
Cisco Powered Network service provider communicates to our customers that our
services are based on Cisco solutions, which translates to the highest level
of quality, security, and reliability."
Pac-West's wholesale dial network will run exclusively on the Cisco AS5800
platform. Pac-West selected the Cisco AS5800 Universal Access Server due to
its increased performance, stability, and ease of integration with the rest of
Pac-West's Cisco-based core network. In addition to the Cisco AS5800,
Pac-West utilizes several other Cisco products to power its deployed network.
Pac-West's ATM core transport backbone is made up of Cisco MGX8850s and BPXs,
and its IP core utilizes Cisco 12008 GSRs, Cisco Catalyst 6500 switches, and
Cisco 7507 routers.
Kevin Outcalt, Senior Director of Service Provider Marketing for Cisco,
said, "We are extremely pleased that Pac-West has chosen to integrate
additional Cisco equipment into its network infrastructure to power its
wholesale dial service and has earned membership into the Cisco Powered
Network program."
Pac-West's participation in the Cisco Powered Network program demonstrates
its ability to provide industry-leading services that are based on Cisco
solutions. As a CPN member, Pac-West will also benefit from joint marketing
and technology sharing activities with Cisco.
