GMC Showcases Innovative Wireless Dispatching and Communication Tool From Gearworks in Towing Concept Vehicle

Flexible and Easy-to-Use Software Operates Via Palm Powered Handhelds and Any
                           PC With Internet Access

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- SEMA Show -- Towing companies can now
more rapidly and efficiently dispatch trucks by using GPS-based tracking
information and mobile forms to provide the towing operator all relevant job
information electronically, including the location of the stranded vehicle,
and to allow the operator to easily capture all important data at the job
location, including an electronic signature if necessary.
Gearworks, a provider of wireless applications for field service and
transportation companies, announced that GMC, a division of
General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM), selected the etrace(TM) wireless work
management application to be featured in the truck division's state-of-the-art
towing concept vehicle. Running on a rugged, Palm Powered handheld device,
etrace provides dispatchers and tow truck drivers real-time tracking and
messaging as well as enhanced on-site customer services, like prepared
electronic work orders, electronic signature capture, credit card and receipt
printing, and bar code reading of VINs (vehicle identification numbers).
"Since professional tow truck drivers must assist disabled motorists often
on an urgent, unscheduled basis, they are in constant contact with their
customers, dispatchers, and dealerships -- a flexible, easy-to-use,
driver-centric solution was critical to this vehicle," says Mike Eaves,
assistant brand manager/product - medium duty trucks. "etrace was a superb
fit with our new GMCC7500 Pro-Rollback concept vehicle."
"There are 36,000 towing companies, yet, less than five percent use a
practical, wireless fleet management system," stated Gearworks Founder and
CEO, Keith Lauver. "With the robust set of functionality that etrace
provides, it will become a must-have for towing operators looking to
differentiate their service and improve their profitability."
This is the second year in a row that General Motors has featured etrace
in a commercial fleet concept vehicle. At SEMA 2000 Gearworks provided a
plumbing contractor configuration of etrace for GMC's Savana Professional Van.
etrace's flexible, modular design allows it to be rapidly configured to fit a
variety of different business processes.
