Centralized Procurement Teams With National Vendors to Offer Lower Prices
DALLAS, Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Fleming (NYSE: FLM) has launched a major
new National Selling Event for independent retail customers, leveraging
Fleming's centralized procurement operation to provide customers significant
bonus deals that provide lower prices on leading national brand products.
These are powerful deals that can help Fleming-supplied retailers improve
competitiveness and drive their sales and profits. The Event offers
opportunities for a Fleming customer to capture thousands of dollars worth of
bonus deals on grocery, frozen, dairy, meat, produce, deli, bakery, general
merchandise, health & beauty care and specialty items.
"Fleming has the largest central procurement operation for consumer
packaged goods in the wholesale industry -- the second largest in all of food
retail -- and we're growing," said Steve Davis, Executive Vice President and
President, Wholesale. "By combining procurement from all operations into one
facility, Fleming's centralized procurement operation can deliver this
exciting, unprecedented National Selling Event for our independent customers."
The deadline for customer orders for this first-ever National Selling
Event is October 12. Items and deals are posted by e-catalog on Visionet,
Fleming's web-based portal connecting customers, vendors and associates.
Offers may vary outside of the contiguous 48 states. Details are available
through the local Fleming Product Supply Center.
Using Centralized Procurement to Lower Costs and Deliver Deals
To better serve retail customers and improve efficiencies in the rapidly
consolidating industry, Fleming launched the centralized procurement
initiative in 2000. Since then, Fleming has been able to use its increased
scale to lower costs and offer customers special deals, including "Weekly
Grand Slams" and "Consortium Buys."
"Centralized procurement is a powerful resource for our customers and we
believe we are seeing just the beginning of what it can offer," said Davis.
"We are proud to be able to offer this terrific National Selling Event and are
excited about the even greater opportunities in the future."
Fleming is the industry leader in distribution and has a growing presence
in value retailing. Fleming's primary business is buying and selling
merchandise. The company serves approximately 3,000 supermarkets including
more than 700 North American stores of global supermarketer IGA and other
regional banners, 6,800 convenience stores and more than 2,000 supercenters,
discount, limited assortment, drug, specialty, and other businesses across the
