Pala Mesa Resort Serves as Base Camp for Southern California Wildfire Emergency Services

PARK CITY, Utah, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Officials of Gemstone Hotels &
Resorts, LLC, today announced that its managed property, Pala Mesa Golf
Resort has been serving as a base camp for emergency officials, ranging
from FEMA to firefighters, battling the wildfires raging through the area.
The hotel currently was operated by employees who volunteered to assist
with providing food and shelter to the workers.
The hotel underwent emergency evacuation procedures for guests last
week, but has remained open throughout to provide assistance to the
emergency personnel fighting the fires, as well as members of the military
and law enforcement agencies.
"Fortunately, the hotel itself has not been damaged by the fires,
though some of our outlying property and some administrative buildings have
been affected," said Jeff McIntyre, Gemstone principal. "As long as it
remains safe to do so, we will continue to provide whatever relief we can
to the men and women battling the fires. This property is a member of the
Emergency Response Network, and I am proud that it has responded so
courageously when the call for assistance arose. As a member of the
community, we have an equal share in its future and felt it was our duty to
respond."
Located in San Diego County, the resort has been surrounded by fires.
"We had heard rumors that the property was on fire or otherwise damaged
beyond repair," McIntyre noted. "As it turns out, those rumors were totally
unfounded. We remained in close contact with the Emergency Response Network
and made available to the workers whatever we could, from bottles of water
to hot meals, lodging accommodations to our thanks. We estimate that we
have served more than 1,100 meals and provided lodging to nearly 700
emergency workers over the past week."
With the evacuation lifted, resort employees have returned to the
property to work on clean-up. The property expects to open for "business as
usual" by week's end. However, the Pala Mesa Golf Resort is waiving all
cancellation fees in light of the emergency situation.
