American Eagle Outfitters October Comparable Store Sales Expected to be Positive Mid-Single Digit

    WARRENDALE, Pa., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ --
American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEOS) today announced that comparable
store sales for the month of October 2001 are trending above the Company's
prior guidance, given on the September sales commentary.  Comparable store
sales for October are now expected to be in the positive mid-single digit
range.  This pre-announcement is made in connection with the Company's
participation in the UBS Warburg Global Consumer Conference on November 1,
2001.
    American Eagle Outfitters also announced that the current First Call
consensus earnings estimate of $0.41 per share for the third quarter is in the
range of the Company's current expectations.
    Final October 2001 sales results will be reported on Wednesday,
