Computer Troubleshooters' Contributions Go Beyond the Computer, Extend to the Community

ATLANTA, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- For Computer Troubleshooters USA,
outstanding service goes beyond destroying worms and viruses and performing
computer repairs and services for the small-business owners and residential
client. The franchise defines stellar service as volunteering time and
resources to communities throughout the country.
The company has more than 200 franchisees worldwide, including more than
100 in the United States. In January 2002 Entrepreneur magazine ranked
Computer Troubleshooters USA the #1 Tech Support franchise. Computer
Troubleshooters USA specializes in providing services to small businesses --
companies with no more than 50 computer systems.
"In addition to providing a valuable contribution to the community through
our Computer Troubleshooters franchises, we also firmly believe in going
beyond the call of duty and beyond the realm of computer services," said Chip
Reaves, national director for Computer Troubleshooters USA.
For example, Phil and Mary Ellen Lathrop, whose CT franchise is in Canton,
Ohio, are active in the Brass Band of the Western Reserve, a non-profit
performing arts organization. Phil plays the Bb tuba and Mary Ellen plays alto
horn.
The band performs an annual holiday benefit concert. Last year more than
$3,000 was raised for the Salvation Army.
"A brass band concert is the type of event that leaves the audience
feeling like a community, and from year one each performance has been a warm,
spirit lifting experience," said Mary Ellen. "In our industry, it is possible
to spend every waking moment focused on the business. You can eat, drink,
live and breathe computers and still not know everything there is to know...
We really appreciate the support of CT USA and CT Ohio in helping sponsor our
local event. The support we receive truly extends beyond our business."
And in CT's national office, Yvonne D. Riley has applied for 501 (c) (3)
status to provide a haven for pregnant teenage girls. CT has helped in that
effort. Riley said she became inspired after her own daughter became pregnant
at 18.
"This is a place for young girls to grow and mature...," said Riley.
Meanwhile, some CT franchise owners extend their professional services at
lower rates than nearby metropolitan providers in the spirit of giving to the
community.
Since starting his Computer Troubleshooters franchise, Luis Arriaga, who
serves small-business and residential clients in East Chicago, Whiting, and
Hammond, Illinois, has been devoted to providing affordable services to the
clients who live in the low- to middle-class area he serves.
"I'm not doing it to get rich," Arriaga said. "It's satisfying to help out
when I can."
Arriaga said there is sometimes as much as a $20-an-hour increase in the
price of computer services 25 minutes away in downtown Chicago. He often won't
even charge for quick fixes, simple errors that take five or 10 minutes to
remedy -- a child who accidentally removes a file or program or forgot a
password.
Northwest Indiana's Computer Troubleshooters franchise, owned by Luis
Arriaga, was recently selected as the Minority Technology Firm of the Year
Award, an honor bestowed by the Northwest Indiana Minority Business
Opportunity Committee.

About Computer Troubleshooters. Australian husband and wife Wilson and
Suzanne McOrist, who had previously owned a 200-franchise business selling
bookkeeping software, founded Computer Troubleshooters in Coffs Harbour on the
New South Wales north coast in 1997. Computer Troubleshooters USA launched in
1999.
Computer Troubleshooters USA is the ideal answer for small businesses,
which often can't afford to hire a full-time IT staff person. There were some
22.9 million small businesses in existence in the United States in 2002,
according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. And more than 85 percent
of these companies conduct business over the Internet, making it crucial that
computer systems perform optimally and connectivity is intact.
