COLUMBIA, Md., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- GSE Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq-NNM: GSES), a leading global provider of integrated enterprise
software and information solutions to the energy, process and
manufacturing industries, today announced that its GSE Power Systems group
has been awarded simulation systems and services contracts totaling more than
$11 million. These awards are comprised of contracts valued at approximately
$8.2 million awarded to GSE Power Systems, Inc., a U.S. based subsidiary of
the Company, and contracts valued at approximately $3.0 million awarded to GSE
Power Systems AB, the Company's Swedish subsidiary.

    GSE Power Systems, Inc.
The $8.2 million in contracts awarded to GSE Power Systems, Inc. to build
and upgrade simulators in Ukraine and Russia are in addition to the
$7.5 million in contracts announced on August 28, 1997.
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) has awarded GSE contracts
valued at over $6.5 million under the US Department of Energy's International
Nuclear Safety Program aimed at improving the safety of Russian-designed
reactors. Under one of the contracts, GSE will provide a display-based
simulator for a nuclear power station located in northeastern Russia. GSE
Power Systems has also been awarded contracts to re-host and upgrade the
models for a simulator in the Ukraine and a simulator in Russia. These
upgrades will allow the plant to significantly improve the quality of its
models and prepare its operators to more efficiently operate each plant.
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) has awarded GSE Power
Systems, Inc. two contract modifications totaling over $1.7 million under the
US International nuclear safety program to provide a set of simulator models
based on the Graphite Moderated Reactor design and to provide for training
center enhancements for the Russian and Ukrainian nuclear regulators. The
simulation models will run on display-based simulators GSE Power Systems
previously developed for these agencies in connection with a previous contract
sponsored by the USNRC under the nuclear safety program.

    GSE Power Systems AB
GSE Power Systems AB has been awarded a 10-year service contract for the
Krummel nuclear power plant simulator, operated by Hamburgische
Electricitatswerke AG near Hamburg, Germany. The contract is valued at
approximately 5.3 MDEM, or approximately US $3.0 million. Presently in a two
year warranty phase, the Krummel simulator is one of the largest and most
modern full-scope BWR simulators in the world and was delivered by a
consortium consisting of GSE Power Systems, Inc. and Siemens AG of Germany.
Performance of the 10-year service contract will commence after the current
warranty phase is concluded. Both GSE Power Systems Inc. and GSE Power Systems
AB presently have simulator specialists at the NPP Krummel site for support
of the simulator.
"GSE Power Systems is very proud of our continued accomplishments in
providing simulation systems and services in the European market and, in
particular, our successes within the US-sponsored Nuclear Safety Initiative in
eastern Europe," stated Jerry Jen, Senior Vice President of GSE Power Systems.

power plant simulation with over 145 full-scope nuclear and fossil plant
simulators delivered in over 20 countries worldwide. GSE Power Systems'
simulators utilize high fidelity real-time software and third party hardware
to replicate all or a portion of the process functions of an industrial plant.
Additionally, they allow customers to train plant personnel, optimize and
validate plant designs, and test process modifications, thereby enhancing the
operational safety of the actual plant.
This news release contains forward-looking statements that involve risks
and uncertainties. The actual future results of GSE Systems may differ
materially due to a number of factors, including but not limited to delays in
introduction of products or enhancements, size and timing of individual
