"This Holiday initiative is another important step forward in our ongoing
marketing efforts to raise awareness and funding for the U.S. Olympic Team,"
said Toby Wong, USOC Chief Marketing Officer. "Along with supporting the
catalog, the ads are a first glimpse at the branding we will be doing to
promote and deepen consumer connection to our athletes on their journey to
Athens," adds Wong.
"We were inspired to offer this new merchandise by the overwhelming
success of the U.S. Olympic Team clothing we offered during the Winter Games
earlier this year," added Matt Biespiel, United States Olympic Committee
Managing Director of Brand Development and NGB Sports Marketing.
The U.S. Olympic Team on-line store and catalog offer a wide range of
Olympic gift ideas including a first-time available, Limited Edition (300)
Olympia to Athens 2004 Puzzle Pin Set (retail price $99.99). Shoppers will
also find the highest quality sportswear available, all fashionably designed,
for everyone on their list including kids, teens, men and women.
Highlights include a brand new collection of Athens-themed clothing and
hats from Roots (retail prices range from $18.99 for a visor to $99.99 for US
Olympic hockey jersey), and the first appearance of USA Olympic clothing from
Adidas (prices range from $14.99 for Olympic Tee to $59.99 for Olympic Fleece
Pullover.)
Olympians and Olympic Hopefuls model the new sportswear throughout the
Holiday 2002 Catalog. The athletes are also featured in a new ad campaign
promoting the catalog that launches November 1st with a full-page ad in USA
Today. The campaign continues with full-page ads appearing throughout
November and December exclusively in USA Today (BW) and Sports Illustrated
(4C), along with online advertising on Yahoo!. All are USOC media partners in
the campaign.
Goodby, Silverstein & Partners/San Francisco created the campaign, that
