PRINCETON, N.J., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Exide Technologies (OTC Bulletin Board: EXDTQ), a global leader in stored
electrical energy solutions, will have a strong presence at the 2002
Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week in Las Vegas, Nevada. The week includes
two trade shows -- AAPEX (Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo) and SEMA
(Specialty Equipment Market Association) -- along with a business conference
of the AWDA (Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association) members.
A 30-member team from Exide's global Transportation Business Group will
exhibit under the theme "Stronger Than Ever" to accompany its presence at the
November 5-8 event. The theme mirrors the message Exide conveyed during the
September Automechanika Fair in Frankfurt.
At the Las Vegas shows, Exide will unveil a new trade show booth with
graphics illustrating the theme, depicting strength and innovation in product
technology, brands, promotions, customer relationships as well as solid
turnaround accomplishments achieved during the first sixth months of this
fiscal year, beginning April 1, 2002.
At AAPEX, Exide will exhibit a full complement of its advanced battery and
battery support technology products, including:
* An innovative new charging/inventory management system that will be
unveiled during the show. The system is designed to provide a new
level of service and sales support to Exide's customers.
* The Micro-500 XL battery tester, to be introduced in November 2002.
The technology is an affordable, easy-to-use, hand-held device that
diagnoses the state of health of 12-volt automotive batteries and
automotive charging systems. The tester helps dealers boost battery
sales and protect motorists from unplanned or emergency battery
purchases. Exide markets this product manufactured by Midtronics, the
world's leading battery management innovations company.
* A display of future battery prototypes illustrating the evolution to
new designs and technologies. With the advent of the 42-volt
electrical system, an example of a 36-volt battery -- highlighting the
technological transition -- will be included.
* A full complement of flagship brands, including Exide(R), NASCAR
Select(R), Champion(R) and Orbital(R).
* Total Battery Management(R) (TBM), Exide's customer service program
that supports battery sales, marketing and services, inventory
management as well as warranty management and "Testing For Sales."
* Exide's redesigned Web site, http://www.exide.com , to be launched on
November 4. The new cyber environment creates a consistent presence
across all of the company's businesses -- Motive Power, Network Power
and Transportation -- reflecting the new Exide Technologies. Its
streamlined look includes a number of enhancements including improved
navigation, new content and links.
At SEMA, the exhibit focus will be on the Exide Select Orbital(R) --
specifically the new Orbital Extreme Cycle Duty (XCD) "Purple Haze" battery
with its rugged, highly efficient design of vibration-resistant, cylindrically
wound cells that provide unparalleled power among conventional automotive
batteries. The battery is marketed for high-energy automotive applications
such as high performance audio amplifiers, CDs, DVDs, VCRs and games players,
as well as hydraulic pumps and other deep cycle power accessories.
"We are transforming Exide into a strong new company with a new spirit and
commitment to the success of our customers," said Craig H. Muhlhauser,
Chairman and CEO of Exide Technologies. "These three events, combined with
the Automechanika show in September, demonstrate that we are establishing new
benchmarks of excellence in every aspect of our business."
The show's promoters expect this year's exhibitions to be well attended,
with a projected 70,000 visitors from all over the world.
