WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The law firm of Powell Goldstein LLP
announced today that Mark Baran is joining the Firm's Financial Institutions
Group as Special Counsel.
Mr. Baran, who has been the Director of the American Bankers Association
Center for Community Bank Tax and senior tax counsel prior to joining the
Firm, brings his extensive knowledge of tax and subchapter S matters to Powell
Goldstein's banking and tax practices.

Mark R. Baran earned his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law,
Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama after graduating from the University
of Florida with his B.A. He later obtained his LL.M. Taxation degree from
Emory University School of Law. Mr. Baran began his career at the Federal
Deposit Insurance Corporation after graduation in 1990, where he spent five
years and first worked with Powell Goldstein banking lawyers. He joined the
American Bankers Association in 1995, and has spent the last nine years
helping the members of the association in legislative advocacy, regulatory
actions and in legal matters related to specialized tax issues.
