OfficeMax Announces Changes to Board, Executive Management Team

    ITASCA, Ill., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- OfficeMax(R), Incorporated
(NYSE: OMX), formerly Boise Cascade Corporation, today announced changes to
its board of directors and executive management team.
    George J. Harad, previously chairman and chief executive officer of Boise
Cascade Corporation, was elected executive chairman of the board of OfficeMax.
Chris Milliken, formerly division president and chief executive officer of
Boise Office Solutions, was elected president, chief executive officer, and a
director of OfficeMax.

     Other management positions announced include:
     -- Gary Peterson, president, Retail -- Peterson joined OfficeMax, Inc.,
        in 2000 as president and chief operating officer and was responsible
        for all day-to-day operations of OfficeMax's retail, commercial, and
        catalog businesses.  Following the acquisition of OfficeMax, Inc., by
        Boise Cascade Corporation in 2003, Peterson was named president of
        Boise Office Solutions' retail operations.
     -- Michael Rowsey, president, Contract -- Rowsey began his career with
        Boise Office Solutions in 1979 as a sales trainee.  Since that time,
        he has held several positions within the business.  He served as
        division vice president until 2001, when he was promoted to division
        senior vice president for Logistics and Strategic Planning.  Most
        recently, Rowsey was senior vice president, Boise Office Solutions,
        and general manager of Boise's contract office products business.
     -- Ryan Vero, executive vice president, Merchandising -- Vero joined
        OfficeMax, Inc., in 1994 and has held numerous positions including
        executive vice president, e-Commerce/Direct, where he was instrumental
        in the 1995 launch of OfficeMax's award-winning e-Commerce site.
        Following the acquisition of OfficeMax, Inc., by Boise Cascade
        Corporation in 2003, Vero became executive vice president,
        Merchandising for Boise Office Solutions.
     -- Harold L. Mulet, executive vice president, Retail Stores -- Mulet
        joined OfficeMax, Inc., in 1999 as executive vice president, retail
        sales and productivity, where he was responsible for store and field
        operations.  Following the acquisition of OfficeMax, Inc., by Boise
        Cascade Corporation in 2003, he served as executive vice president -
        Retail Stores for Boise Office Solutions.
     -- David Goudge, executive vice president, Marketing -- Goudge joined
        Boise Office Solutions as a sales representative in 1980.  From 1983
        to 1990, he held increasingly responsible positions in sales and
        general management.  He was promoted to manager of product marketing
        in 1993, named vice president for marketing in 1998, and division
        senior vice president for marketing in 2000.
     -- Steve Embree, executive vice president, Merchandising - Retail --
        Embree joined OfficeMax in 2004.  Prior to joining OfficeMax, Embree
        was Executive Vice President Merchandising and Replenishment for
        Office Depot, which he joined in 1991.  Before joining Office Depot he
        was employed by Office Club, a West Coast start-up business, as
        Divisional Merchandise Manager/Senior Buyer.
     -- Matt Broad, executive vice president, general counsel and corporate
        secretary -- Broad joined Boise Cascade Corporation in 1984 as counsel
        in the legal department.  In 1989, he was promoted to associate
        general counsel responsible for the office products distribution
        division.  In 1989, Broad was appointed corporate secretary of Boise
        Cascade Office Products Corporation.

    Effective today, Boise Cascade Corporation changed its company name to
OfficeMax, Incorporated.  This change followed the completion of the sale of
the company's paper, forest products, and timberland assets for approximately
$3.7 billion to affiliates of Madison Dearborn Partners.  As a result of this
transaction, several members of the former executive management team will
serve in transitional positions with OfficeMax and then retire when the
transition is complete.  They include:

     -- John Bender, senior vice president, Boise Building Solutions
     -- Graham Covington, vice president, Boise Paper Solutions
     -- Ted Crumley, senior vice president and chief financial officer
     -- Ben Groce, senior vice president, Boise Paper Solutions
     -- Vince Hannity, vice president, Corporate Communications and Investor
        Relations
     -- Guy Hurlbutt, vice president, Public Policy & Environment
