NEW YORK and SAN DIEGO, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A volunteer organization
born out of the ashes of September 11 will be sending a group of FDNY
firefighters and 9/11 survivors to San Diego County this weekend to help
some very special people start the process of rebuilding their homes
following last week's devastating firestorm. The New York Says Thank You
Foundation sends NYC firefighters along with other volunteers from the Big
Apple to help rebuild communities around the U.S. affected by disaster as a
way of saying "Thank You" for all the love and support Americans gave to
New Yorkers in the days following September 11. The group will spend the
weekend in San Diego County helping to clean up the Dulzura home of Earl
Carter, a carpenter who volunteered to help rebuild 20 homes after the 2003
Cedar Fire, and Dan Lachenbruch, the La Mesa firefighter whose Rancho
Bernardo home burned to the ground while he was working to save other
people's homes from the Harris Fire. The weekend's clean-up and recovery
efforts are being made possible through the generous support of JetBlue
Airways, the Lions Clubs, and the La Mesa Fire Department.
"So many people from California and San Diego County went out of their
way to help New Yorkers following 9/11. This is our simple way to 'Pay It
Forward' while helping these wonderful families start the long process of
rebuilding," stated Jeff Parness, founder of The New York Says Thank You
Foundation.
WHEN + WHERE: The New York group will fly from JFK to Long Beach, CA
courtesy of JetBlue Airways on Friday Nov. 2 and stay in Harbison Canyon
Friday evening. Saturday they will be onsite at Earl Carter's home at 19070

onsite at Dan Lachenbruch's home at 17787 Creciente Way in Rancho Bernardo
at 8AM to work alongside La Mesa firefighters in the clean up effort.
