Ultra-High Performance Tire Wins Popular Mechanics Award
LAS VEGAS, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Goodyear Tire & Rubber
Company (NYSE: GT) has just introduced its latest ultra-high performance

reviews and product awards from respected independent sources.

This week, at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show,
the Eagle F1 Asymmetric received the Popular Mechanics Editor's Choice
Award for New Products. The tire is becoming available this month at many
retail tire outlets.
Popular Mechanics editors selected the Eagle F1 tire from more than
4,000 displays and too many new products to count at the Automotive
Aftermarket Industry Week here.
"It is an honor to receive this award on behalf of Goodyear and the
engineers who invented this tire for the demanding enthusiasts in this
segment," said Bob Toth, marketing manager for Goodyear auto tires.
"Goodyear's Eagle brand of tires have long been known for ultimate
performance, and this recognition again helps to provide further
credibility."
In past years, Goodyear received the prestigious Editor's Choice award
for its Fortera HL luxury SUV tire, its Wrangler MT/R off-road tire, a pair
of ultra-performance tires for sports cars - the Eagle F1 GS-D3 and Eagle
featuring ResponsEdge Technology. These tires went on to receive additional
glowing reviews in the industry, and have been sales successes for the
company, too.
The Eagle F1 Asymmetric is a tire that helps maintain even tread
contact pressure on the road to enhance grip while cornering. This is
accomplished through the company's exclusive "Active CornerGrip
Technology," with an Aramid reinforcement in the inside sidewall of the
tire.
With the Eagle F1 Asymmetric, the tread pattern features an outer tread
zone for enhanced grip and a water-channeling inner tread zone to aid wet
traction. A continuous center rib helps provide enhanced high-speed
stability.
In addition to the Popular Mechanics award, the Goodyear Eagle F1
Asymmetric has already been labeled a "winner" in automotive magazine
testing. In independent comparison tests of the leading ultra-high
performance tires conducted by British automotive magazine, EVO, the Eagle
F1 Asymmetric was rated number one overall.
"A decisive win for the new Goodyear, with more table-topping
performances than any other tire," stated the magazine in its summary of
the nine-tire comparison. The wins came in both wet and dry objective
tests, and subjectively, it was voted best tire on the dry handling course.
Additionally, another UK magazine, Autocar, presented a
high-performance tire test in its October issue, and again, the Eagle F1
Asymmetric came out on top. The staff conducted tests in braking, dry and
wet handling, and used both front- and rear-wheel drive cars. Not only
finishing first in overall test results, the new Goodyear tire also drew
rave comments. In a reference to how much the Eagle F1 Asymmetrics improved
the performance of the test Mercedes C350, Autocar stated, "With a set of
Goodyears, it was like attaching a turbo to the Mercedes' engine."
In North America, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric will be offered in 22 sizes,
in 17, 18, 19 and 20 inch wheel diameters. These tire sizes will fit cars
such as the BMW 550I, Porsche 911 Carrera and Mercedes CLK55 AMG.
"We love to see feedback like this," said Toth. "We knew we had a
winner with the new F1, and the test results and various awards continue to
confirm it. The tire has become a great high-level ambassador for the
entire Eagle lineup."
