Glenbrook Life and Annuity Announces Addition of Putnam Investments to Its Diversified Suite of Variable Annuity Products

              Rounds Out Extraordinary Line-Up of Fund Families

    NORTHBROOK, Ill., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenbrook Life and Annuity
Company, a member of Allstate Financial Group, which is the number three*
writer of variable annuity products in banks in the nation, announces the
addition of Putnam Investments to its Glenbrook Provider suite of variable
annuity products.
    Glenbrook Life's Provider suite of products now contain the top six best-
selling fund families in banks, based on a list compiled by Kenneth Kehrer
Associates, August 2001.  With the addition of Putnam funds, the Glenbrook
Provider suite of variable annuities now offers 49 sub-account options.  Other
top-selling fund families offered within the Glenbrook products include AIM
Advisors Inc., The Dreyfus Corporation, Fidelity Investments(R), Franklin(R)
Templeton (R) Investments, Goldman Sachs, MFS Investment Management(R), Morgan
